Wheelchair Racing in Berlin

NYCSCIA President, George Gallego is in Germany taking on the 26.2 miles of the BMW Berlin Marathon this Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011. It’s one of the five World Marathon Majors: Boston,London,Berlin,Chicago and NYC where elite athletes from all over the world come to compete….but before he even got to race, George and his wife, Julia, had a whole other challenge!  Check it out:
“I am in Berlin now… We are 6 hours ahead of NY time. The flight here was insane. We were supposed to fly direct with Delta, I almost never choose flights with multiple stops because I usually have too much equipment, well, this time our flight was changed at the last possible minute. Delta is not allowed to fly to Berlin for some reason, so we were put on an flight with a lay-over in Paris. The terminals were very far from one another, the shuttle buses were not accessible nor were they big enough for the racing chair. Julia and I had to walk/roll from terminal to terminal! It took us an hour–needless to say we missed our connecting flight! Anyway, we are safely in Berlin now! We had a wonderful breakfast, German Style! We will go into the City of Berlin this afternoon.  I’ll keep you posted as we go along.”
Regards,
George
